✔️ Indications

Esocon 20 is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that effectively reduces stomach acid production. It is used for the treatment of heartburn, acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and peptic ulcer disease. It also helps heal and prevent stomach and duodenal ulcers caused by excessive acid or long-term NSAID use.

This medicine provides lasting relief from acid-related disorders by lowering acid secretion in the stomach, thereby promoting healing and comfort.

✔️ Overdose

Symptoms: Headache, nausea, confusion, drowsiness, and tachycardia.
Management: Symptomatic and supportive care. No specific antidote.

✔️ Side Effects

Common (1–10%)

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Nausea or vomiting
• Abdominal pain
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Flatulence
• Dry mouth

Uncommon/Rare (<1%)

• Blurred vision
• Rash, itching, or photosensitivity
• Muscle weakness or joint pain
• Hypomagnesemia
• Hepatic dysfunction or jaundice
• Blood disorders (pancytopenia, agranulocytosis)
• Severe skin reactions (Stevens–Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis — rare)

Long-term use may increase the risk of bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, and low magnesium levels.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Increased levels of: Tacrolimus, Methotrexate, Saquinavir, Warfarin (↑ INR).
• Decreased absorption of: Ketoconazole, Erlotinib, Iron salts.
• Decreased effect of: Clopidogrel (due to CYP2C19 inhibition).
• Potentially serious: Reduced efficacy of Rilpivirine, Atazanavir, Nelfinavir.
• With diuretics: May increase risk of hypomagnesemia.

✔️ Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to Esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any formulation component.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Category: Data are insufficient, but available evidence with Omeprazole suggests no major fetal risk. Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.

Lactation: Small amounts may pass into breast milk. The benefits of therapy should be weighed against potential risks to the infant.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Use cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment, malignancy suspicion, or osteoporosis.
• Long-term use may increase risk of gastrointestinal infections (e.g., Clostridium difficile).
• Regular magnesium and bone density monitoring is advised for long-term therapy.
• For severe liver impairment, limit dose to 20 mg/day.
