✔️ Side Effects

• Adults: Somnolence, asthenia, infection, dizziness.
• Pediatrics: Fatigue, aggression, nasal congestion, decreased appetite, irritability.

✔️ Special Populations:

• Elderly (65+): Dose adjustment may be needed in those with compromised renal function.
• Renal impairment: Dose adjustments based on renal function.
• Hepatic impairment: Reduce dose in severe cases.

✔️ Administration

• The film-coated tablets should be taken orally with sufficient liquid. It can be taken with or without food.
• The daily dose is split into two equal doses.

✔️ Dosage

Adults and adolescents (16 years and older):

• Starting dose: 250 mg twice daily, increased to 500 mg twice daily after two weeks. The dose can be further increased by 250 mg twice daily every two weeks based on clinical response.
• Maximum dose: 1500 mg twice daily.

Adults (≥18 years) and adolescents (12 to 17 years) weighing ≥50 kg:

• Initial dose: 500 mg twice daily, which can be increased up to 1500 mg twice daily based on response.

Pediatric population:

• Not suitable for infants or children under 6 years of age as monotherapy. The oral solution is preferred for these patients.
• For children 6 years and older, the oral solution should be used for doses under 250 mg and for doses not achievable by tablets.

Interactions

• Antiepileptic drugs: Neurocet XR does not significantly affect the serum levels of other antiepileptic drugs (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine, valproic acid).
• Probenecid: Inhibits renal clearance of the primary metabolite of Neurocet XR.
• Methotrexate: May reduce methotrexate clearance, increasing blood methotrexate levels.
• Laxatives: The efficacy of Neurocet XR may be decreased when taken with osmotic laxatives like macrogol.

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance or other pyrrolidone derivatives.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Not recommended during pregnancy unless clinically necessary.
• Excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding is not recommended while on treatment.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Renal impairment: May require dose adjustment.
• Hepatic impairment: No adjustment needed for mild to moderate cases. Reduce dose by 50% in severe cases.
• Suicidal ideation: Monitor patients for signs of depression or suicidal thoughts.
• Blood cell counts: Regular monitoring is recommended due to the risk of blood cell count abnormalities (e.g., neutropenia, leukopenia).
