A 10% urea cream can increase the water-holding capacity of ichthyotic scales by 100% after 3 weeks of treatment. There is no known data on the absorption of urea through the skin, as its effects are localized and not dependent on systemic absorption. If absorbed, urea is excreted unchanged through urine.
