✔️ Pharmacology of Pink-Bismol

Pink-Bismol creates a protective coating for the esophagus and stomach lining. It exerts an anti-diarrheal effect by encouraging the absorption of fluids and electrolytes in the intestines and inhibits prostaglandins responsible for inflammation. Additionally, it binds and neutralizes toxins from harmful bacteria like E. coli, and fights H. pylori infection in the gastrointestinal tract.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Pink-Bismol

Adults: 30 ml, 3-4 times daily, 30 minutes before meals.
Children (3-12 years): 5-15 ml depending on age.
Repeat doses may be taken every 30 minutes to 1 hour, but no more than 8 doses in 24 hours.
Elderly & Renal Insufficiency: Caution is advised.

✔️ Side Effects of Pink-Bismol

Common: Black stool and black tongue due to bismuth subsalicylate.
Severe: Consult a doctor if symptoms persist for more than 2 days.

✔️ Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to aspirin or salicylates.
Should not be used with aspirin or other salicylate-based medications.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation:

Category C: No adequate human studies. It should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Not recommended during breastfeeding.

Avoid concurrent use with aspirin, anticoagulants, and medications for diabetes or gout.
Discontinue use in case of adverse reactions like rash, dizziness, or tinnitus.
