Osmolax Oral Solution 100ml

✔️ Osmolax is indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:

• Chronic Constipation: Should be used when dietary fiber, fluids, and physical activity are insufficient.
• Intestinal Flora Disturbances: Especially after long-term antibiotic treatment.
• Gall Bladder Diseases.
• Intestinal Diseases: Including colitis, diverticulosis, and megacolon.
• Increased Blood Ammonia Levels: Such as in hepatopathy or portal-systemic encephalopathy.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Chronic Constipation:

• Adults: 3-6 teaspoons daily initially, then 1½-6 teaspoons for long-term therapy.
• Children up to 14 years: 3 teaspoons initially, 1-2 teaspoons for long-term therapy.
• Infants and Toddlers: 1-2 teaspoons initially, then 1 teaspoon for long-term therapy.

Damaged Intestinal Flora:

• Adults: 1-2 teaspoons daily.
• Children: 1 teaspoon daily.

Reduction of Blood Ammonia Levels:

• Hyperammonemia in Hepatopathy: 18-30 teaspoons daily.
• Portal Systemic Encephalopathy: 6-9 teaspoons hourly until laxation is achieved, then reduce the dose.

Use as directed by a registered healthcare professional.

✔️ Side Effects

• Common: Flatulence, cramps, and abdominal discomfort, especially at the start of treatment. These can be reduced by adjusting the dose.
• Overdose: Can cause diarrhea. Long-term abuse may result in electrolyte imbalance, particularly potassium loss.

✔️ Interaction

No significant drug interactions have been reported. However, potassium deficiency from abuse may intensify the effects of cardiac glycosides.

✔️ Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to galactose or lactose.
• Patients on a galactose-free diet.
• Gastro-cardinal symptom complex.
• Suspected intestinal obstruction.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Lactulose has no known adverse effects (FDA Category B). The decision to use during pregnancy and lactation should be made by a registered physician.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Caution should be used when administering Osmolax to patients with known intolerance.
• Higher doses required for hepatic coma treatment may affect diabetics.

• Keep out of reach of children.
