✅ Description:
Prostanor is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It helps improve urine flow and relieve BPH symptoms but is not intended for hypertension treatment.
Silodosin selectively blocks alpha-1 adrenoreceptors found in the prostate, bladder base, bladder neck, prostatic capsule, and urethra. This leads to the relaxation of smooth muscles, improving urine flow and reducing symptoms of BPH.

- Recommended dose: 8 mg orally once daily with food
- Patients with moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-50 mL/min): 4 mg once daily with food
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min): Not recommended
- Pediatric: Not indicated for children.
- Elderly: Increased risk of dizziness and hypotension in older patients.
- Renal Impairment: Dose reduction required for moderate cases; contraindicated in severe cases.
- Hepatic Impairment: Not recommended in severe liver disease

✔️ Overdose Management
- Symptoms: Postural hypotension
- Treatment:
- Place patient in a supine position
- Administer intravenous fluids if necessary
- Vasopressors may be used if required
- Dialysis is not effective due to high protein binding (97%)
✔️ Drug Interaction
- P-glycoprotein inhibitors (e.g., Cyclosporine) can increase Prostanor concentration.
- PDE5 inhibitors combined with Prostanor may cause symptomatic hypotension.
✔️ Contraindications
❌ Severe renal or hepatic impairment
❌ Use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., Ketoconazole, Clarithromycin, Itraconazole, Ritonavir)
❌ Patients with known hypersensitivity to Silodosin
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Postural hypotension (dizziness or fainting) may occur at treatment initiation.
- Avoid combining with other alpha-blockers.
- Inform your ophthalmologist before cataract surgery to prevent Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS).
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B: Not intended for women.
- Animal studies show no major teratogenic effects, but limited human data.
