Oxycort Acucap | 12/400mcg

✔️ Oxycort combines:

Formoterol: A long-acting bronchodilator that relaxes airway muscles, widening them to ease breathing.

Budesonide: A corticosteroid that reduces airway inflammation by controlling chemical messengers causing swelling.

Together: they improve breathing and reduce asthma or COPD symptoms.

✔️ Common Side Effects:

>10% incidence: Upper respiratory tract infection, headache, nasopharyngitis

1–10% incidence: Sore throat, stomach discomfort, sinusitis, oral candidiasis, bronchitis, viral URTI, backache, influenza, nasal congestion, vomiting

✔️ Words of Advice:

• Do not swallow the capsule.
• Place it at the base of the rotahaler, not in the mouthpiece.
• Twist the mouthpiece until it clicks.
• Inhale deeply through the mouthpiece and hold your breath for up to 10 seconds.
• Repeat if powder remains in the inhaler.
• Rinse your mouth after each use to prevent oral infections.
• Always carry your rescue inhaler.
• Do not stop medication without a doctor’s advice.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Adults & Adolescents (≥12 years):

Asthma: 1 puff twice daily or 2 puffs once daily.

Additional puffs as needed (max 6 per occasion).

Maintenance + Reliever therapy: 100 or 200 Convicaps twice daily; extra as needed (max 6 per occasion).

COPD:

200 Convicap: 2 capsules twice daily

400 Convicap: 1 capsule twice daily

Children (<12 years): Safety not established.

✔️ Contraindications:

Acute severe asthma or status asthmaticus

Hypersensitivity to Budesonide, Formoterol, or lactose

✔️ Drug Interactions

CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., itraconazole, clarithromycin) may increase Budesonide levels.

Non-potassium-sparing diuretics may worsen hypokalemia or cause ECG changes.

✔️ Precautions

1. Not for sudden asthma attacks.
2. Risk of paradoxical bronchospasm (may worsen breathing).

Caution in patients with:

• Cardiovascular diseases (arrhythmia, coronary insufficiency, hypertension)
• Osteoporosis or elderly patients (may decrease bone mineral density)
• Pediatric patients (may reduce growth rate)
• Active infections (TB, fungal, bacterial, viral) or ocular herpes
• Pregnancy & Lactation: Use only if benefits outweigh risks; monitor closely.

✔️ Storage:

Keep in a dry place away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
