✅ Description:
M-Kast 10 mg (Montelukast) works by blocking cysteinyl leukotriene (CysLT1) receptors. Leukotrienes (LTC4, LTD4, LTE4), produced from arachidonic acid in inflammatory cells like mast cells and eosinophils, contribute to airway inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus production.
By inhibiting these receptors, M-Kast reduces airway swelling, prevents bronchospasm, and improves allergy symptoms.
M-Kast 10 mg is used for:
- Prevention and long-term management of asthma
- Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB)
- Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (both seasonal and perennial)

✔️ M-Kast 10 mg generally has low interaction risk and can be used with many common medications such as:
- Theophylline, corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, digoxin, warfarin
- Sedatives, NSAIDs, thyroid hormones, and decongestants
However:
- Drugs like phenobarbital or rifampicin may reduce its effectiveness → clinical monitoring is recommended

Hypersensitivity to montelukast or any component of the formulation

- Classified as Pregnancy Category B
- Animal studies show placental transfer, but human data is limited
- May pass into breast milk → use with caution in breastfeeding mothers

- Not suitable for treating acute asthma attacks
- Patients should always have a rescue inhaler available
- Do not abruptly replace corticosteroids with M-Kast
- Not recommended as a single-dose treatment for exercise-induced bronchospasm
- Patients sensitive to aspirin should continue avoiding NSAIDs
