This supplement combines Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol), two essential nutrients that work synergistically to support bone health and proper calcium utilization in the body.
Vitamin K2 activates osteocalcin, a calcium-binding protein that facilitates the incorporation of calcium into the bone matrix. This helps ensure strong bones and reduces the likelihood of calcium depositing in soft tissues, such as blood vessels.
Vitamin D3 plays a critical role in promoting normal bone growth, maintaining bone density, and aiding the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. After absorption in the small intestine, Vitamin D3 is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (Calcidiol), and then in the kidneys to its active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (Calcitriol). Calcitriol binds to vitamin D receptors in various tissues to enhance calcium absorption.
Vitamin D3 is fat-soluble and has a half-life of approximately 50 days. It is eliminated via feces and urine, while excess amounts are stored in fat and muscle tissues.
