✔️ Pharmacology

• Calcium is essential for bone health and various body functions.
• Vitamin D3 helps in calcium absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and supports bone formation.
• Coral Calcium is chemically similar to human bone and is absorbed better than other calcium sources.

Clinical studies confirm that Calcium + Vitamin D3 has a synergistic effect in osteoporosis prevention & bone growth.

✔️ Overdose Effects

Symptoms of Hypercalcemia:

• Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, excessive thirst & urination.
• Severe cases: Bone pain, kidney stones, cardiac arrhythmias, coma, or death.

Treatment:

• Stop taking calcium & vitamin D.
• Discontinue thiazide diuretics, lithium, vitamin A, and cardiac glycosides.
• Hydration therapy & medications (loop diuretics, bisphosphonates, corticosteroids, calcitonin).
• Monitor serum electrolytes, renal function, ECG.

✔️ Side Effects

• Gastrointestinal: Constipation, irritation, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, decreased appetite.
• Allergic Reactions: Rash, itching.
• Cardiac Issues: Irregular heartbeats (rare).
• Hypercalcemia Symptoms: Fatigue, muscle weakness, excessive thirst, kidney stones (rare).

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Take one tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Thiazide diuretics reduce calcium excretion → Risk of hypercalcemia. Monitor calcium levels.
• Corticosteroids decrease calcium absorption → Higher calcium dose may be needed.
• Cholestyramine & paraffin oil reduce Vitamin D absorption.
• Tetracyclines: Calcium may interfere with absorption → Take tetracyclines 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after calcium.
• Cardiac glycosides (e.g., Digoxin): Hypercalcemia can increase toxicity → Monitor ECG and calcium levels.
• Bisphosphonates & sodium fluoride: Take Coralcin-DX at least 3 hours before.
• Oxalic acid (spinach, rhubarb) & phytic acid (whole grains) inhibit calcium absorption → Avoid taking calcium within 2 hours of these foods.

✔️ Do not use in patients with:

• Hypercalcemia or hyperparathyroidism
• Hypercalciuria or kidney stones
• Severe renal insufficiency
• Allergy to any component of the preparation
• Concurrent Digoxin therapy (requires careful monitoring of calcium levels)

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Safe during pregnancy & breastfeeding when taken as prescribed.
• Do not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU Vitamin D daily.
• High doses of Vitamin D can cause fetal toxicity.
• Vitamin D and calcium pass into breast milk.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Monitor serum calcium & kidney function in long-term use, especially in elderly patients.
• Caution in immobilized osteoporosis patients (risk of hypercalcemia).
• Patients with sarcoidosis should be monitored for excess Vitamin D metabolism.
• Patients with severe renal disease should use alternative forms of Vitamin D.
