Ceevit DS contains Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), an essential nutrient that cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained from the diet or supplements. It plays vital roles, including:

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Ceevit DS 500
- Prevention of Scurvy: 1 tablet daily
- Treatment of Scurvy: 1–2 tablets daily, with the dose adjusted based on the severity of the condition.

- Other Indications: 1 tablet daily or as directed by a physician

✔️ Side Effects of Ceevit DS 500
Ceevit DS has minimal toxicity when taken in recommended doses. However, mega-doses may cause:
- Diarrhea and abdominal bloating
- Harmful iron over-absorption (e.g., in thalassemia, sideroblastic anemia, and hemochromatosis)
- Hyperoxaluria, hyperuricosuria
- Hemolysis in patients with G6PD deficiency
- Fetal abortion in pregnant women taking more than 5 g/day

Potentially Hazardous Interactions
- Incompatible with aminophylline, bleomycin, erythromycin, sodium bicarbonate, and certain other drugs in solution.
Beneficial Interactions
- Increases the half-life of paracetamol.
- Enhances iron absorption in the gastrointestinal tract.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe at normal doses during pregnancy. However, doses exceeding 5 g/day may result in fetal abortion.
- Safe during lactation.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Pregnancy: Avoid mega-doses (>1000 mg/day) as they may cause neonatal scurvy.
- Hyperoxaluria: Contraindicated in patients with this condition.
- False Positive Reactions: Ascorbic Acid may interfere with tests for glucose, uric acid, creatine, and occult blood.
