✔️ Pharmacology

• Thiamine functions as a coenzyme (thiamine pyrophosphate) in the decarboxylation of α-ketoglutaric acid, essential for energy metabolism.
• Impacts the peripheral nervous system, gastrointestinal tract, and cardiovascular system. Symptoms include fatigue, anorexia, tachycardia, irritability, and neurological issues.
• Thiamine is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with a plasma half-life of approximately 24 hours. It is not stored in significant amounts in the body; excess is excreted in urine.

• Prophylaxis: 3 to 10 mg daily.
• Mild Chronic Deficiency: 10 to 25 mg daily.
• Severe Deficiency: 200 to 300 mg daily.
