✔️ What Does Valerian Root Contain?

Valerian root contains valerenic acid, an active compound known for its sedative effects. Valerenic acid is believed to interact with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors in the brain, which helps calm and slow down brain activity.

✔️ Uses of Valerian Root

1. Insomnia: While it's one of the most studied plants for sleep, evidence of its effectiveness is mixed. Some studies suggest it may promote sleep and improve sleep quality. However, inconsistencies in ingredients and quality control have been noted.
2. Anxiety: Research is ongoing, but there's weak evidence suggesting valerian root might help with anxiety, particularly in cases of insomnia-related anxiety.
3. Menopausal Hot Flashes: Valerian root may reduce the severity and frequency of hot flashes during menopause, although the exact mechanism is unclear.
4. Other Historical Uses: Valerian root has been used historically to address nervousness, trembling, headaches, heart palpitations, stomach spasms, epileptic seizures, and even attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Scientific support for these uses is limited.

Valent is well-tolerated in therapeutic dosages. However, excessive intake may lead to side effects such as headache, depression, nausea, lethargy, uneasiness, bradycardia, arrhythmias, and decreased intestinal motility.
