✔️ Dosage & Administration
The dosage of biotin depends on the patient’s age and clinical condition.
Adults:
Typically, 1–3 tablets daily or as directed by a physician.
Children:
Biotin deficiency, which may occur between 1 week and 2 years of age, can present with symptoms such as seizures, hypotonia, developmental delay, ataxia, hyperventilation, and coma. In such cases, 5–10 tablets daily may be administered after crushing and mixing with water or fruit juice, or as advised by the physician.
Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA):
Infants (0–6 months): 5 mcg/day
Infants (7–12 months): 6 mcg/day
Children (1–3 years): 8 mcg/day
Children (4–8 years): 12 mcg/day
Males and females (9–13 years): 20 mcg/day
Adolescents (14–18 years): 25 mcg/day
Adults (≥19 years): 30 mcg/day
Pregnancy: 30 mcg/day
Lactation: 35 mcg/day
✔️ Drug Interactions
Anticonvulsant medications may reduce plasma biotin levels
Prolonged antibiotic therapy can decrease biotin synthesis by intestinal microflora
Excessive intake of raw egg whites may impair biotin absorption
✔️ Contraindications:
Total Biotin is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
✔️ Side Effects
Biotin is generally well-tolerated at recommended doses. No toxicity has been reported even with high oral doses up to 200 mg or intravenous doses up to 20 mg per day.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
Adequate clinical data regarding the use of biotin during pregnancy and breastfeeding are not available. Use should be based on medical advice.
