Merison is a medication used to prevent and treat Ménière's disease, a disorder of the inner ear characterized by symptoms such as dizziness (vertigo), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and loss of hearing. These symptoms are often associated with fluid accumulation in the ear. Merison works by reducing the amount of fluid in the inner ear, thereby relieving these symptoms. It should be taken whole with water at the same time each day, as directed by your doctor.
Common side effects of Merison include headache and nausea. It may also cause indigestion, stomach pain, and bloating. Taking the medication with food can help reduce stomach-related issues. If you have a stomach ulcer, asthma, or high/low blood pressure, inform your doctor before taking Merison. Additionally, disclose any other medications you are taking to ensure safety. If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor.
Merison can only decrease the number and severity of attacks associated with Ménière's disease but may not completely stop them. It improves blood flow in the inner ear, reducing excess fluid pressure that can cause symptoms. If you miss a dose, skip it and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
