Nevan TS Opthalmic Suspension

Indications

Nepafenac 0.1 percent Sterile Ophthalmic Suspension is used to alleviate ocular pain and inflammation after surgery, such as cataract surgery. Preventing postoperative cystoid macular edema and preventing surgery-induced miosis (CME).

Post-operative discomfort and inflammation associated with cataract surgery are treated with nepafenac 0.3 percent Sterile Ophthalmic Suspension.

Pharmacology

Nepafenac is an anti-inflammatory prodrug that is not a steroid (NSAID). It penetrates the cornea after instillation and is transformed to Amfenac, a strong nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication, via ocular tissue hydrolase. The cyclooxygenase enzyme is thought to be inhibited by amfenac. Prostaglandin production necessitates the presence of this enzyme.

Dosage & Administration

Nepafenac 0.1% Sterile Ophthalmic Suspension-

For post-operative pain & inflammation: Instill 1 drop 3 times daily 1 day prior to cataract surgery and continued on the day of surgery and through the first 2 weeks of the post-operative period.

For surgery induced miosis: Instill 1 drop 3 times daily 1 day before surgery & on the day of surgery.

For prevention of post-operative CME: Instill 1 drop 3 times daily 1 day before surgery and continued on the day of surgery and through the first 6 weeks of the post-operative period.

Nepafenac 0.3% Sterile Ophthalmic Suspension-

For post-operative pain & inflammation: Instill 1 drop once daily 1 day prior to cataract surgery and continued on the day of surgery and through the first 2 weeks of the post-operative period. An additional drop should be administered 30 to 120 minutes prior to surgery.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with previously demonstrated hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients in the formulation or to other NSAIDs.

Side Effects

Reported side effects are foreign body sensation, lid margin crusting, ocular discomfort, ocular hyperemia etc.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: No suitable and well-controlled trials have been conducted in pregnant women. Only if the possible benefit outweighs the risk to the fetus should napafenac be used during pregnancy.

It is unknown whether this medicine is excreted in human milk when used during breastfeeding. When administering Nepafenac ophthalmic suspension to a nursing mother, caution is advised.

Precautions & Warnings

Nepafenac should be used with caution in patients who have a history of bleeding problems or who are taking drugs that can lengthen bleeding duration.
