✅ Description:
Maxiflox Ophthalmic Solution is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as Chlamydia trachomatis. It is also available as an intraocular injection to prevent postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis.

✔️ Maxiflox is effective against:
Gram-positive bacteria:
- Corynebacterium species
- Micrococcus luteus
- Staphylococcus aureus, S. epidermidis, S. haemolyticus, S. hominis, S. warneri
- Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus viridans group
Gram-negative bacteria:
- Acinetobacter lwoffii
- Haemophilus influenzae, H. parainfluenzae
Other microorganisms:
- Chlamydia trachomatis
Intraocular use:
- Administered during ocular surgery to prevent bacterial endophthalmitis
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
Avoid prolonged use to prevent overgrowth of resistant organisms, including fungi
Discontinue if superinfection occurs and start alternative therapy
Patients should avoid contact lens use during active conjunctivitis
Clinical evaluation may include slit lamp examination and fluorescein staining
✔️ Side Effects
Ocular adverse effects (1–6% of patients) may include:
- Conjunctivitis
- Decreased visual acuity
- Dry eye, keratitis
- Eye discomfort, hyperemia, pain, pruritus
- Subconjunctival hemorrhage, tearing
Non-ocular effects (1–4% of patients) may include:
- Fever, cough, infection
- Otitis media, pharyngitis
- Rash, rhinitis
✔️ Interaction
No formal drug-drug interaction studies have been conducted with Maxiflox ophthalmic solution
In vitro studies suggest Maxiflox does not affect CYP450 enzymes, making it unlikely to interfere with drugs metabolized by CYP3A4, CYP2D6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, or CYP1A2

Allergy to Moxifloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the medication
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
- Use only if benefits outweigh potential risks during pregnancy
- Caution advised when administered to nursing mothers; Moxifloxacin may be excreted in human milk

- Store below 25°C in a cool, dry, and light-protected place
