✅ Description:
0.5% Ophthalmic Suspension:
- Steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the eye, including allergic conjunctivitis, acne rosacea, superficial punctate keratitis, herpes zoster keratitis, iritis, and cyclitis.
- Post-operative inflammation.
1% Ophthalmic Suspension:
- Similar to the 0.5% suspension, indicated for steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions and post-operative inflammation.
0.5% Ophthalmic Ointment:
- Steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions, including chronic anterior uveitis and corneal injuries.
- Post-operative inflammation and pain following ocular surgery.
0.5% Ophthalmic Gel:
- Post-operative inflammation and pain following ocular surgery.
- Steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of 1% Ophthalmic Suspension:
- Steroid-responsive inflammation: Instill 1 drop 2 times daily.
- Post-operative inflammation: Instill 1 drop 2 times daily, starting 24 hours after surgery for 2 weeks.
Use in Children: Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients are not established.
Use in Geriatrics: No differences in safety and effectiveness between elderly and younger patients.
✔️ Side Effects
- Ocular: Increased intraocular pressure, optic nerve damage, blurred vision, photophobia, corneal thinning, burning, itching, discharge, and dry eyes.
- Non-ocular: Headache, rhinitis, and pharyngitis (less common).
✔️ Interactions
Loteprednol is not detected in plasma following topical use, so it is unlikely to interact with systemic medications.
✔️ Contraindications
- Viral diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, such as epithelial herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia, and varicella.
- Mycobacterial or fungal infections of the eye.
- Hypersensitivity to Loteprednol or other corticosteroids.
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: Classified as Category C. Use only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk. Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity.
- Lactation: Unknown if Loteprednol is excreted in human milk; caution is advised.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- If symptoms do not improve after 2 days, re-evaluate the patient.
- Monitor intraocular pressure for treatments lasting 10 days or more.
- Prolonged use may lead to fungal infections in the cornea.
- Avoid wearing contact lenses during treatment.
- If redness or itching worsens, consult a physician immediately.
✔️ Storage Conditions
- Store below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light.
- Do not freeze.
- Avoid touching the tip of the tube or bottle to any surface to prevent contamination.
- Discard the product one month after first opening.
