Flomox-XG (Moxifloxacin) inhibits topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV enzymes crucial for bacterial DNA processes including replication, transcription, repair, and recombination.

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• You have been prescribed Flomox-XG for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye.
• Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
• Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute, immediately after instilling the medication.
• Do not touch the tip to any surface, or to your eye, to avoid contamination.
• Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
• It may cause short term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or using machines.
• Do not wear contact lenses until your infection clears up.
• Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the medication.

Flomox-XG is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the eye.

✔️ Pharmacology

Moxifloxacin works by inhibiting topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. These enzymes are crucial for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. By inhibiting these enzymes, Moxifloxacin effectively disrupts bacterial cell division and growth.

✔️ Dosage of Flomox XG 0.5% Eye Drop

Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily for 7 days.

• Pediatric Use: The safety and effectiveness of Moxifloxacin in infants below four months of age have not been established. However, several clinical studies suggest that the drug can be used safely in children younger than one month of age.
• Geriatric Use: No overall differences in safety and effectiveness have been observed between elderly and younger patients.

There is practically no risk of adverse effects due to accidental ingestion, as a 5 ml bottle of the eye drops solution contains only 25 mg of Moxifloxacin, which is much lower than the recommended daily oral dose.

This medicine is for external use only. Take it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Wipe off extra liquid.

• QT Prolongation: Additive effect with other drugs that prolong QT interval (e.g., erythromycin, TCAs, antipsychotics).
• Decreased Absorption: Reduced absorption with aluminum- or magnesium-containing antacids, iron, or zinc preparations.
• Corticosteroids: Concurrent use increases the risk of severe tendon disorders, especially in the elderly.
• Antiarrhythmics: Concurrent use with class Ia or III antiarrhythmic drugs may cause additive QT interval prolongation.

Moxifloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus, as there are no adequate and well-documented studies in pregnant women. It is presumed that Moxifloxacin may be excreted in human milk, so caution should be exercised when administering it to breastfeeding mothers.

Prolonged use of Moxifloxacin may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
