Benozol PF inhibits carbonic anhydrase (CA), an enzyme found in various tissues, including the eye. By blocking CA activity in the ciliary processes it reduces the formation of bicarbonate ions, leading to decreased sodium and fluid transport. This results in reduced aqueous humor production and lower intraocular pressure (IOP).

✔️ Side Effects:

Common: Blurred vision, abnormal taste (bitter/sour).
Less common (<1%): Ocular irritation (dryness, pruritus, keratitis), headache, dermatitis, allergic reactions, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, urticaria, etc.

✔️ Dosage & Administration:

Shake well before each use.
Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily.
If used with other eye drops, administer them at least 10 minutes apart.
Pediatric (4 weeks to 5 years): 1 drop twice daily in the affected eye(s).
Geriatric: No significant difference in safety or efficacy compared to younger patients.

✔️ Interaction:

Caution is advised in patients taking high-dose salicylates, especially those also taking oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, due to the risk of rare interactions.

✔️ Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation.

✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy Category C: Use only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk.

Exercise caution during lactation.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings:

Contains a sulfonamide component; systemic absorption may lead to sulfonamide-type reactions.
Rare but severe reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, agranulocytosis) have occurred.
Avoid in renal impairment; use with caution in hepatic impairment.
Discontinue immediately if serious hypersensitivity or adverse reactions develop.

Store at room temperature, away from light.
Do not freeze.
Avoid contact between the dropper tip and any surface.
Discard the bottle four weeks after opening.
