Side Effects:

• Common (>10%):
  • Injection site tenderness (3-56%), erythema (1-22%), warmth (1-17%), swelling (9-11%)
  • Irritability (11-36%), anorexia (1-19%), drowsiness (15-17%), headache (1-16%)
  • Fever >100.4°F (9-11%)
• Less Common (1-10%):
  • Upper respiratory infection (URI) (1-10%), otitis media (8%), rhinorrhea (6%), diarrhea (1-6%), cough (1-5%)
  • Rash (1-5%), weakness/fatigue (4%), vomiting (1-4%), fever >102°F (3%), crying (2%)
• Rare (<1%):
  • Hematoma, increased creatine phosphokinase (CPK), photophobia, vertigo
• Potentially Fatal: Anaphylaxis

✔️ How does Avaxim Pediatric Injection work?

• Contains hepatitis A antigen derived from formaldehyde-inactivated HAV grown in human diploid cells, providing active immunization against Hepatitis A.

✔️ Dosage: Avaxim Pediatric Injection

• Administered intramuscularly only; not for intravenous use.
• Primary immunization consists of two doses:
  • Children (12 months - 15 years): 0.5 ml dose
    • First dose on a chosen date
    • Second dose 6 months after the first dose
  • Individuals 16 years and older: 1 ml dose
    • First dose on a chosen date
    • Second dose 6 months after the first dose

✔️ Administration: Avaxim Pediatric Injection

• Administer intramuscularly in:
  • The deltoid region for adults and older children.
  • The anterolateral thigh for young children under 1 year.
• Avoid administering in the gluteal region or by subcutaneous/intradermal routes as it may reduce antibody response.
• Inspect for particulate matter or discoloration; shake the vial well before use to obtain a milky-white suspension.

✔️ Interaction

• Reduced response to the vaccine when used with immunosuppressive medications such as corticosteroids or antineoplastics.

✔️ Contraindications:

• Individuals with allergies to any vaccine components, active illness, fever, or immune disorders should not receive this vaccine.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Only administer during pregnancy if necessary.
• Use with caution for nursing mothers.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Shake well before use.
• Exercise caution for individuals with a history of epilepsy, chronic illness, or allergies.
• Do not use it if the container is damaged, contains foreign particles, or is expired.
• Have adrenaline and first-aid ready for severe allergic reactions; observe patients for 30 minutes post-vaccination.
• Do not freeze the vaccine.
