✅ Description:
Soritec contains Acitretin, an oral retinoid (Vitamin A analogue) used to treat severe skin conditions that do not respond to other therapies.
Adults & Elderly:
- Initial dose: 25–30 mg daily for 2–4 weeks
- Maintenance: 25–50 mg daily for 6–8 weeks for optimal results
- Maximum dose: 75 mg/day in some cases
Darier’s disease:
- Start at 10 mg/day and increase cautiously
Congenital ichthyosis & Darier’s disease:
- Therapy may continue beyond 3 months; use the lowest effective dose (≤50 mg/day)
- Continuous use beyond 6 months is not recommended
Children:
Typical dose: 0.5 mg/kg daily
Can increase up to 1 mg/kg daily, max 35 mg/day for short periods

Severe and extensive psoriasis resistant to other treatments
Palmo-plantar pustular psoriasis
Severe congenital ichthyosis
Severe Darier’s disease (keratosis follicularis)
✔️ Side Effects
Most patients experience some side effects, which are usually dose-dependent
Common effects:
- Skin and mucous membrane changes
- Temporary worsening of psoriasis at treatment start
Others: Alopecia, decreased night vision, headache, nausea, vomiting, visual disturbances
✔️ Drug Interactions
Alcohol: Forms etretinate when combined with Soritec
Contraindicated with: Methotrexate, tetracyclines, vitamin A, or other retinoids
Phenytoin: Soritec may reduce protein binding
Contraception: Low-dose progesterone-only pills may be ineffective during treatment
No significant interaction with warfarin

Pregnancy: Highly teratogenic; strict contraception required 4 weeks before, during, and 2 years after treatment
Breastfeeding: Not allowed
Severe liver or kidney disease
Chronically high blood lipids
Hypersensitivity to acitretin or other retinoids
Rare glucose-galactose malabsorption
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Avoid pregnancy during and 2 years after treatment
- Patients should not donate blood during or for 2 years post-treatment
- Avoid excessive sunlight; retinoids increase UV sensitivity
Monitor:
- Liver function: before starting, every 1–2 weeks initially, then every 3 months
- Cholesterol & triglycerides: before starting, after 1 month, then every 3 months
- Blood sugar levels in patients at risk
- Stop Soritec immediately if severe headache, nausea, vomiting, or visual changes occur

Keep in a cool, dry place, protected from light
Do not store above 25°C
