✔️ Dosage & Administration:
Injection:
- May be used as single or multiple doses for the management of moderately severe acute pain requiring opioid-level analgesia, typically in the postoperative setting.
- Administer IV bolus over ≥15 seconds; IM administration should be slow and deep.
- The analgesic effect begins within 30 minutes, with maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours after IV or IM dosing. The duration of effect is usually 4 to 6 hours.
✔️ Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal bleeding, melena, peptic ulcer, pancreatitis, anxiety, drowsiness, headache, excessive thirst, fatigue, bradycardia, hypertension, palpitation, chest pain, female infertility, pulmonary edema.
✔️ Interaction:
- May reduce the effects of antihypertensives like ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
- Increased risk of renal toxicity with ACE inhibitors, and diuretics.
- Increased adverse effects with aspirin or other NSAIDs.
- Hallucinations may occur with fluoxetine, thiothixene, and alprazolam.
- Potentially fatal: Increased risk of GI bleeding with warfarin. May increase the toxicity of methotrexate (MTX) and lithium. Increased plasma concentrations with probenecid.

- US FDA Pregnancy category: C. Should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings:
- Caution is advised in patients over 65 years, active/suspected peptic ulcer or GI bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction.
