Zerotil Plus is prescribed for infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
- Throat Infections: Pharyngitis, tonsillitis (Streptococcus pyogenes)
- Ear Infections: Acute otitis media (S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis)
- Sinus Infections: Acute bacterial sinusitis (S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae)
- Respiratory Tract Infections: Pneumonia, bronchitis, exacerbations (multiple organisms including beta-lactamase producers)
- Skin Infections: Uncomplicated cases (S. aureus, S. pyogenes)
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTI): Uncomplicated UTIs (E. coli, K. pneumoniae)
- Sexually Transmitted Infections: Gonorrhoea (N. gonorrhoeae)
- Bone & Joint Infections: Caused by S. aureus
- Sepsis: Caused by various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria

Adults & Adolescents (13+ years):
- Throat: 250 mg twice daily (5–10 days)
- Sinusitis: 250 mg twice daily (10 days)
- Bronchitis/Pneumonia: 250–500 mg twice daily (5–10 days)
- UTI/Skin infections: 250–500 mg twice daily (7–10 days)
- Gonorrhoea: 1000 mg single dose
- MDR Typhoid: 500 mg twice daily (10–14 days)
- Lyme disease: 500 mg twice daily (20 days)
Children (3 months–12 years):
- Throat: 20 mg/kg/day in two doses (5–10 days)
- Otitis/Sinusitis/Impetigo: 30 mg/kg/day in two doses (10 days)

✔️ Drug Interactions
Probenecid increases cefuroxime levels in the body.
Antacids or acid-reducing agents can lower its absorption.
✔️ Contraindications
Known allergy to cephalosporins
History of pseudomembranous colitis
✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation
- Avoid in first trimester if possible.
- Safe in later pregnancy when needed.
- Minimal amounts are excreted in breast milk, but monitor infant for sensitivity.
