• Starcef 400 is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall).

✔️ Indication of Starcef 400mg Capsule

Bacterial infections.

✔️ Pharmacology

• Doxepin's exact mechanism of action is unknown.
• It is neither a central nervous system stimulant nor a monoamine oxidase inhibitor.
• The current theory suggests that clinical effects are due, at least in part, to the influence of adrenergic activity at synapses, preventing norepinephrine deactivation by reuptake into nerve terminals.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Starcef 400mg Capsule

• Usual course: 7 days, may be continued up to 14 days based on infection severity.
• Adult and children over 12 years: 200-400 mg (1 to 2 capsules) daily, single or divided doses.
• Uncomplicated cervical/urethral gonococcal infections: Single oral dose of Cefixime 400 mg.
• Children (6 months or older): 8 mg/kg/day, single or divided doses.
• Dosage for typhoid fever: 10 mg/kg/day for 14 days.
• Not established for children under 6 months.

• Increased concentrations with probenecid.
• Potentially Fatal: May increase prothrombin time with anticoagulants.

✔️ Contraindications

Not recommended if allergic to Cefixime or other cephalosporins.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
• Cefixime is not known to be excreted in human milk.
• Caution advised during nursing; use only if necessary.

• Caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis.
• Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, or hemodialysis.
