✔️ Dosage & Administration

For Adults & Adolescents (13+ years):

• Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 100 mg every 12 hours for 5–10 days.
• Acute Sinusitis: 200 mg every 12 hours for 10 days.
• Community-acquired pneumonia: 200 mg every 12 hours for 14 days.
• Chronic Bronchitis Exacerbation: 200 mg every 12 hours for 10 days.
• Skin Infections: 400 mg every 12 hours for 7–14 days.
• Uncomplicated UTI: 100 mg every 12 hours for 7 days.
• Uncomplicated Gonorrhea & Rectal Gonococcal Infections: Single 200 mg dose.

For Children (2 months–12 years):

• Acute Otitis Media: 5 mg/kg every 12 hours for 5 days.
• Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis: 5 mg/kg every 12 hours for 5–10 days.
• Acute Sinusitis: 5 mg/kg every 12 hours for 10 days.

For Patients with Kidney Issues:

• Severe Renal Impairment (Creatinine Clearance <30 ml/min): Dosage interval should be extended to once every 24 hours.

For Patients with Liver Cirrhosis:

• No dosage adjustment is necessary as the pharmacokinetics remain similar to healthy individuals.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Antacids & H₂ Blockers: Reduce absorption and peak plasma levels by 24–42%, lowering effectiveness.
• Probenecid: Increases Cefpodoxime concentration by reducing renal excretion (31% increase in AUC).
• Nephrotoxic Medications: When taken with other nephrotoxic drugs, kidney function should be closely monitored.

✔️ Rovantin is well-tolerated but may cause mild side effects, including:

• Common: Diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, and fungal infections (skin & vaginal).
• Less Common: Chest pain, muscle pain, indigestion, vertigo, and cough.
• Children: Higher likelihood of skin fungal rashes compared to adults.

✔️ Contraindications:

Patients allergic to Cefpodoxime or cephalosporin antibiotics should avoid using this medication.

✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Animal studies show no harmful effects, but no well-controlled human studies exist. Use only if necessary.
• Breastfeeding: Since Cefpodoxime is excreted in breast milk, a decision should be made to either discontinue the drug or breastfeed.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Kidney Disease: Dosage should be adjusted in patients with reduced kidney function.
• Diuretic Use: Caution is advised when used with potent diuretics, as they may enhance the risk of renal impairment.
• Long-Term Use: May cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. Regular monitoring is recommended.
