✔️ Resquin is prescribed for the treatment of mild, moderate, and severe infections caused by susceptible strains of specific microorganisms in the following conditions:

• Acute maxillary sinusitis is caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Moraxella catarrhalis.
• Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis due to Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Moraxella catarrhalis.
• Community-acquired pneumonia caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila, or Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
• Urinary tract infections (uncomplicated and complicated) caused by Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Staphylococcus saprophyticus.
• Acute pyelonephritis caused by Escherichia coli.
• Skin and soft tissue infections (uncomplicated and complicated), such as abscesses, cellulitis, impetigo, furuncles, pyoderma, and wound infections, caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Proteus mirabilis, or Enterococcus faecalis.
• Enteric infections caused by Enterobacter species, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter species, Vibrio cholerae, Shigella species, or Salmonella species.

Note: Use only under the supervision of a registered physician.

✔️ The recommended doses of Levofloxacin are as follows:

Adults:

• Acute sinusitis: 500 mg once daily for 10–14 days or 750 mg once daily for 5 days.
• Chronic bronchitis exacerbation:
  • Uncomplicated: 500 mg once daily for 7 days or 750 mg once daily for 3 days.
  • Complicated: 750 mg once daily for 5 days.
• Community-acquired pneumonia: 500 mg once daily for 7–14 days or 750 mg once daily for 5 days.
• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections: 250 mg once daily for 3 days.
• Complicated urinary tract infections and acute pyelonephritis: 250 mg once daily for 7–10 days.
• Uncomplicated skin/soft tissue infections: 500 mg once daily for 7–10 days.
• Complicated skin/soft tissue infections: 750 mg once daily for 7–14 days.
• Enteric fever: 500 mg once daily for 7–14 days.
• Diarrhea (including cholera, shigellosis):
  • Mild to moderate: Single dose of 500 mg.
  • Moderate to severe: 500 mg once daily for 3 days.

Children:

• Ages 6 months to <5 years: 10 mg/kg every 12 hours.
• Ages >5 years: 10 mg/kg every 24 hours.

Sequential therapy (intravenous to oral) may be implemented as per physician’s discretion.

✔️ Resquin is generally well tolerated. Common side effects include:

• Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
• Rare occurrences of flatulence, phototoxicity, or CNS effects (e.g., tremors, anxiety, depression, confusion).
• Risk of retinal detachment.

✔️ Administration Instructions

• Take Resquin in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor.
• Swallow it as a whole.
• Do not chew, crush, or break it.
• Resquin may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
• Avoid Resquin with dairy products such as milk, cheese, curd, butter, paneer, and ice cream.

✔️ Interaction

• QT Interval Prolongation: Additive effects may occur when co-administered with Class IA antiarrhythmics (e.g., quinidine, procainamide), Class III antiarrhythmics (e.g., amiodarone, sotalol), fluoxetine, or imipramine.
• Reduced Absorption: Levofloxacin absorption is reduced when taken with sucralfate, didanosine, antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, and dietary supplements containing zinc, calcium, magnesium, or iron.
• Glucose Level Alterations: Co-administration with antidiabetic agents such as insulin or glibenclamide may cause fluctuations in blood glucose levels.
• Tendon Disorders: The risk of severe tendon disorders (e.g., tendonitis or tendon rupture) increases when used with corticosteroids.
• CNS Stimulation and Seizures: Increased risk of CNS stimulation and seizures when combined with NSAIDs.
• Increased Prothrombin Time: Warfarin co-administration may result in an increased prothrombin time, elevating the risk of bleeding.

✔️ Contraindications:

Levofloxacin is contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to levofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics, or any of the product’s components.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Levofloxacin is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as its effects on the fetus or infant remain uncertain.

✔️ Precautions

• Use with caution in individuals with known or suspected CNS disorders, such as severe cerebral arteriosclerosis or epilepsy, or in those predisposed to seizures.
• Avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight or artificial UV light during treatment, as this may increase the risk of phototoxicity.
• Avoid use in patients with a history of prolonged QT interval or uncorrected electrolyte disturbances.
• Monitor blood glucose levels carefully, as fluctuations may occur during treatment.
• Regularly assess renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic functions, especially during prolonged treatment.
  • Not recommended due to potential risks to the unborn child.
  • The drug is excreted in breast milk and is not recommended for nursing mothers.
• Use with caution in elderly patients due to potential sensitivity to the drug’s side effects.
• May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Patients should exercise caution until they are aware of how the drug affects them.
