✔️ Pharmacology

• Bacitracin: Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, making it effective against several Gram-positive bacteria (e.g., Staphylococci, Streptococci, Corynebacteria, Clostridia) and some Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Neisseria, Haemophilus influenzae).
• Neomycin (an aminoglycoside): Binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein and DNA synthesis. It is effective against Gram-negative aerobic bacteria and some Staphylococcal strains.

✔️ Side Effects

• Generally well tolerated.
• In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

• Ointment: Clean the affected area before application. Remove pus or crusts if present. Apply 2 to 3 times daily on the affected skin.
• Dusting Powder: Used for superficial skin infections. Apply a light dusting on the affected area up to 4 times daily.

Follow a physician’s recommendation for proper usage.

• Children & Infants: Suitable for children at adult doses, but dosage should be reduced in infants.
• Not recommended for neonates.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Bacitracin Zinc: Increased risk of nephrotoxicity when used with other nephrotoxic drugs. May enhance the action of neuromuscular-blocking agents.
• Neomycin Sulphate:
  • Can have additive nephrotoxic and neurotoxic effects when combined with aminoglycosides, bacitracin, cisplatin, vancomycin, amphotericin B, polymyxin B, colistin, and viomycin.
  • Enhanced toxicity when taken with potent diuretics.
  • May impair absorption of other drugs and enhance the effect of acarbose and muscle relaxants.
  • May antagonize the effects of neostigmine and pyridostigmine.
  • Potential risk of hypocalcemia in patients on bisphosphonates.
  • May alter INR levels when combined with anticoagulants.
  • May inactivate oral typhoid vaccine.

✔️ Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• The safety of Neo-B during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been fully established.
• Should only be used if the potential benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus or infant.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid applying to large open wounds or severely injured skin, as it may cause hard crust formation.
• Should not be used in otitis externa if the eardrum is perforated, due to the risk of ototoxicity.
• Self-medication caution: Patients with deep wounds, puncture injuries, animal bites, or serious burns should consult a doctor before using the product.
• If used for minor skin injuries (cuts, scrapes, burns), discontinue use and consult a physician if there is no improvement within one week.

• Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct light.
• Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
