✔️ How does Fortison Cream work?

Fortison Cream is a combination of three medicines: Hydrocortisone and Fusidic Acid which treat skin infections. Hydrocortisone is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Fusidic Acid is an antibiotic. It stops bacterial growth by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions.

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• Fortison Cream must be applied as a thin layer on the affected area as prescribed by your doctor.
• Do not use Fortison Cream more often or for longer than advised by your doctor.
• Before each application, wash the affected area with soap and water and dry well.
• Avoid getting it in the eyes, mouth, or nose. Rinse with cold water if you accidentally get it in these areas.
• Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
• Inform your doctor if the treated skin area does not improve after 2-4 weeks of treatment.

✔️ Indication of Fortisone Cream

Fucidin H Cream effectively treats and controls skin infections caused by bacteria. 

✔️ Pharmacology

Composition:

• Fusidic Acid BP 2%: An effective topical antibiotic against Staphylococci, Streptococci, Corynebacteria, Neisseria, and certain Clostridia & Bacteroides.
• Hydrocortisone Acetate BP 1%: A corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressant, and anti-mitotic actions.

Mechanism of Action:

• Fusidic Acid: Acts as an antimicrobial agent by inhibiting protein synthesis in microorganisms. It interferes with the translocation step by stabilizing the ribosome-guanosine diphosphate elongation factor G-complex, preventing the binding of aminoacyl t-RNA to the ribosome, thereby stopping the addition of amino acids to the growing polypeptide chain.
• Hydrocortisone Acetate: Reduces the skin's response to injury through its anti-inflammatory properties. It also suppresses the immune response and inhibits cell division (anti-mitotic).

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Fortison Cream

Apply Fortison Cream as advised by your physician. It is for external use only. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight, and severity of the infection.

✔️ Interaction

Drug-Drug Interaction: Fortison Cream may interact with antidiabetic drugs (metformin, pioglitazone, acarbose, glimepiride).

Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have rosacea (redness and often red, small, pus-filled bumps on the face), acne, perioral dermatitis (redness and swelling of the skin around the mouth), tuberculosis, diabetes, syphilis (a bacterial infection), chickenpox or sores, athlete’s foot, broken veins or skin ulcers, please inform your doctor before taking Fortison Cream.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

Fusidic Acid and Hydrocortisone Acetate should not be used in or near the eye because of the possibility of conjunctival irritation by Fusidic Acid. When used under occlusive dressing, over extensive areas, or on the face, scalp, axillae, and scrotum, sufficient absorption may occur, giving rise to adrenal suppression and other systemic effects.
