✔️ Words of Advice:

• Always take on an empty stomach.
• Complete the full course even if you feel better.
• Diarrhea may occur; contact your doctor if severe or if stools have blood.
• Stop immediately if allergic reaction symptoms appear.
• Do not double doses if you miss one—just take the next as scheduled.

✔️ How to Take Eryrox

• Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) for best absorption.
• Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew.
• Take at regular intervals as prescribed.
• Do not skip doses and complete the full course, even if you feel better.
• Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours before or after a dose.

✔️ Side Effects

• Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea
• Headache
• Rash, itching
• Flatulence, indigestion
• Cholestatic hepatitis, jaundice
• Hearing loss, vertigo, tinnitus
• Irregular heartbeat (QT prolongation, arrhythmias)
• Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis, urticaria, rash)
• Pseudomembranous colitis (bloody diarrhea)

✔️ Seek medical help immediately if you develop:

• Severe rash or swelling (face, tongue, throat)
• Breathing difficulties
• Severe diarrhea with blood/mucus
• Signs of liver problems (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine)

✔️ Dosage

Adults:

• 250 mg every 6 hours OR 500 mg every 12 hours.
• Severe infections: up to 4 g/day.
• Acne: 500 mg twice daily for 3 months, then 250 mg twice daily for 3 more months.
• Other infections: dose varies by condition (7–14 days).

Children:

• 50 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 6–8 hours.

Renal impairment: No adjustment usually needed.

Hepatic impairment: Use with caution; monitor liver function.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• May reduce levels of valproic acid → risk of seizures.
• Probenecid increases erythromycin levels.
• Interacts with drugs affecting heart rhythm, warfarin, statins, theophylline, and others.

✔️ Precautions

• Avoid if allergic to erythromycin or other macrolides.

Use cautiously in patients with:

• Liver disease
• Heart rhythm disorders or prolonged QT interval
• Myasthenia gravis (may worsen muscle weakness)
• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use only under medical advice (Category B; enters breast milk).
• Long treatment (>10 days) increases risk of liver side effects.
