This syrup is indicated as an antitussive for the relief of persistent, dry, irritating coughs and aids in restful sleep.

✔️ How does Pires-D Syrup work?

Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that relieves cough by reducing the activity of the cough center in the brain. Diphenhydramine is an antiallergic that helps reduce cough associated with allergies by blocking the effects of a chemical messenger, histamine.

Dizziness, Headache, Sedation, Double vision, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Dryness in mouth, Nervousness, Nausea, Decreased appetite, Heartburn, Weakness, Discomfort when urinating, Polyuria

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide + Diphenhydramine helps relieve dry persistent cough.
• Measure the syrup with a special dose-measuring spoon or cup, not a regular table spoon.
• Drink extra fluids to help loosen the congestion and lubricate your throat while you are taking this medication.
• It may cause dizziness and drowsiness. Use caution while driving or doing anything that requires concentration.
• Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide + Diphenhydramine as it can cause excessive drowsiness.

✔️ Composition:

Each 5 ml syrup contains:

• Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride BP: 14 mg
• Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP: 6.5 mg
• Levomenthol BP: 2 mg

✔️ Pharmacology

• Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide acts as a non-opioid antitussive by raising the threshold for the cough reflex in the medulla oblongata.
• Levomenthol has mild local anesthetic and decongestant properties.
• Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride possesses antitussive, antihistaminic, and anticholinergic properties.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Pires-D Syrup

• Adults and children over 12 years: 2 teaspoonfuls of syrup 4 times a day or as directed by the physician. Do not exceed 8 teaspoonfuls of syrup in 24 hours.
• Use in children and adolescents: The efficacy and safety of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide have not been established in pediatric patients and adolescents.

Overdose Effects:

• Hallucinations, convulsions, coma, or cardiovascular collapse may occur with higher doses.
• Treatment should be symptomatic and supportive.

• Potentiation of alcohol and CNS depressants effects due to Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride.
• Possible potentiation of anticholinergic effects with other anticholinergics.
• Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors can result in symptoms such as hyperpyrexia, hallucinations, excitation, or coma.

• Known hypersensitivity to the product or any of its components.
• Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors within the preceding two weeks.
• Avoid in subjects at risk of respiratory failure.
