✔️ Report immediately if you develop:

1. Severe diarrhea (bloody stools)
2. Skin rash, swelling, or breathing difficulty
3. Do not double-dose if a dose is missed; take the next dose as scheduled.

✔️ Dosage & Administration

Adults

• Acute bronchitis, Exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, Otitis media, Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis, UTI: 200–400 mg daily, as a single dose or in two divided doses.
• Gonorrhea: 400 mg as a single dose.
• Typhoid fever: 20 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses for 7–14 days.

Children

• General dose: 8 mg/kg/day in 1–2 divided doses.
• 6 months–1 year: 75 mg daily
• 1–4 years: 100 mg daily
• 5–10 years: 200 mg daily
• >12 years or >50 kg: Adult dose applies
• Typhoid fever: 15–20 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses for 7–14 days (max 400 mg/day).
• <6 months: Safety not established.

Renal impairment

• CrCl <20 mL/min: Maximum 200 mg/day.

Administration

• May be taken with or without food.
• Can be taken with milk or food to minimize GI discomfort.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Observational studies show no major risk of birth defects, miscarriage, or adverse fetal outcomes. It can be used if the benefits outweigh the risks.

Lactation: Unknown if excreted in human milk (present in animal milk). Use with caution; weigh maternal benefit vs infant risk.

✔️ Interaction

Probenecid: Increases plasma concentration of cefixime.

Anticoagulants: May prolong prothrombin time → bleeding risk.

✔️ Contraindications:

Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• History of penicillin allergy (cross-reactivity possible).
• Renal impairment → dose adjustment required.
• Use with caution in GI disease (esp. colitis).
• Use in pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed.
• Prolonged use may lead to superinfection.

Store below 30°C, protected from light and moisture.

Keep out of reach of children.
