✔️ Afix 200: Side Effects

Gastrointestinal:

• Diarrhea, stool changes (more common with higher doses), nausea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, vomiting, flatulence, and rarely pseudomembranous colitis.

Central Nervous System:

• Headache and dizziness.

Hypersensitivity Reactions:

• Rash, pruritus, urticaria, drug fever, arthralgia (typically resolves upon discontinuation).

Hematological:

• Rare cases of thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, and eosinophilia.

Miscellaneous:

• Genital pruritus and vaginitis.

✔️ Dosage and Administration of Afix 200

• Treatment duration: Typically 7 days but may extend up to 14 days if necessary.
• Food: Absorption is not significantly affected by food.

Dosage:

• Adults and Children Over 10 Years: 200–400 mg daily as a single dose or divided into two doses, depending on the severity of the infection.
• Elderly: Same as adult dosage. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for severe renal impairment.
• Children (6 months–10 years): 8 mg/kg/day as a single or divided dose. Suggested daily suspension doses:
  • 6 months to 1 year: 3.75 mL
  • 1–4 years: 5 mL
  • 5–10 years: 10 mL
• Typhoid Fever: 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily for 10–14 days.
• Children Over 50 kg or Older than 10 Years: Use adult dosage.
• Children Under 6 Months: Safety and efficacy not established.

Renal Impairment:

• If creatinine clearance is ≥20 mL/min: Normal dose.
• If creatinine clearance <20 mL/min: Do not exceed 200 mg once daily.

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Gastric lavage may be considered. No specific antidote is available.
• Cefixime is not significantly removed by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.

• Cephalosporins, including Cefixime, may prolong prothrombin time. Caution is advised in patients on anticoagulants.

• Known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or any component of the medication.

• Pregnancy: No adequate studies are available. Should only be used if needed.
• Lactation: It is unknown if Cefixime is excreted in human milk. Use with caution in nursing mothers.

Allergy Risk:

• Exercise caution in patients with penicillin allergies, as cross-reactivity between penicillins and cephalosporins is possible.
• Discontinue immediately if an allergic reaction occurs.

Renal Impairment:

Antibiotic-Associated Diarrhea:
