Cefixime kills bacteria by disrupting their cell wall synthesis, and it remains effective in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes, making it useful against penicillin-resistant bacteria. About 40%-50% of the drug is absorbed, regardless of food intake.

✔️ Dosage & Administration
- Adults and children over 10 years: 200-400 mg daily, either as a single or divided dose.
- Children: 8 mg/kg/day, divided as needed. Dose adjustments are based on age and weight.
- Elderly: Same as adult dosage but with renal function monitoring.
- Renal Impairment: For creatinine clearance <20 ml/min, limit to 200 mg once daily.
✔️ Contraindications & Precautions
- Not suitable for patients with cephalosporin hypersensitivity. Caution is advised for penicillin-sensitive patients due to partial cross-allergenicity.
- Pregnant or nursing women should only use Cefixime if necessary.
- Avoid in infants under 6 months, as efficacy and safety are unverified.

Most side effects are mild, such as gastrointestinal issues (e.g., diarrhea, nausea) and hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., rash, urticaria). Rare cases may include pseudomembranous colitis and hematological changes.
