✅ Description:
Tenoren Plus contains two active ingredients: Atenolol and Chlorthalidone.
Atenolol: A cardioselective beta-blocker (β1) that:
- Lowers heart rate at rest and during exercise
- Reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure
- Decreases reflex orthostatic tachycardia
Chlorthalidone: A long-acting diuretic that:
- Increases excretion of sodium and chloride in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney
- Helps reduce fluid retention and blood pressure
This combination provides convenient, effective blood pressure control without reducing the bioavailability of either drug.

✔️ Dosage & Administration
Initial dose: Atenolol 50 mg + Chlorthalidone 25 mg once daily.
If the response is insufficient, another antihypertensive may be added gradually, starting at 50% of the usual starting dose to avoid excessive blood pressure drop.
Renal impairment: Atenolol is excreted via the kidneys, so dosage adjustment may be necessary in severe renal dysfunction.
Elderly: Limited data for patients ≥65 years; start cautiously.

Symptoms: low blood pressure, electrolyte imbalance, dehydration, slow heart rate.
Management:
Symptomatic and supportive treatment
Remove unabsorbed drug (emesis or activated charcoal)
Atenolol can be removed by hemodialysis
✔️ Drug Interactions
- May enhance the effects of other antihypertensives.
- Concomitant use with catecholamine depletors (e.g., reserpine) may cause low blood pressure or slow heart rate.
- Calcium channel blockers or Amiodarone may have additive effects.
- NSAIDs (e.g., indomethacin) may reduce the antihypertensive effect.
- Digitalis glycosides with beta-blockers can increase the risk of bradycardia.
✔️ Do not take Tenoren Plus if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to Atenolol, Chlorthalidone, or sulfonamide drugs
- Sinus bradycardia or heart block >1st degree
- Cardiogenic shock or overt heart failure
- Anuria (lack of urine production)
✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category D: Use only if benefits outweigh risks.
Breastfeeding: Exercise caution; may affect the infant.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
May worsen peripheral arterial circulation.
Periodic monitoring of serum electrolytes is recommended to prevent imbalances.

Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light.
