✔️ Side Effects
Generally well tolerated. Possible reactions include:
- Headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, dry mouth
- Dizziness, drowsiness, and appetite changes
- Rare: blood dyscrasias, hepatic enzyme abnormalities, SCLE (skin lesions), hypomagnesemia, GI infections
✔️ Dosage & Administration
- Duodenal ulcer / Gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4–6 weeks
- GERD (erosive/ulcerative): 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks
- GERD maintenance: 10–20 mg once daily, as needed
- Symptomatic GERD: 10 mg once daily (on-demand possible)
Pediatrics (1–11 years):
<15 kg: 5 mg once daily (up to 10 mg if required)
≥15 kg: 10 mg once daily
- Zollinger–Ellison syndrome: Start with 60 mg/day; adjust up to 120 mg/day if needed
- H. pylori eradication: Rabeprazole 20 mg BID + Clarithromycin 500 mg BID + Amoxicillin 1 g BID for 7 days
- 💊 Administration tip: Take in the morning, before meals. Swallow whole—do not chew or crush.
✔️ Interaction
May reduce absorption of pH-dependent drugs (ketoconazole, itraconazole, atazanavir).
No interaction with liquid antacids.
Avoid co-administration with atazanavir

Hypersensitivity to rabeprazole or excipients
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation

- Exclude gastric/esophageal malignancy before therapy
- Long-term/high-dose use may increase fracture risk (hip, wrist, spine)
- Monitor magnesium and Vitamin B12 on prolonged use
- Exercise caution in severe hepatic impairment
- Not recommended in children <12 years
