✔️ Side Effects of Flatamel DS Suspension 200ml

• Rare gastrointestinal side effects: diarrhea, constipation, regurgitation.
• Aluminium Hydroxide: Chalky taste, constipation, fecal impaction, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, rebound hyperacidity, aluminum intoxication, hypophosphatemia, milk-alkali syndrome, osteomalacia.
• Magnesium Hydroxide: Diarrhea, hypermagnesemia.
• Simethicone: Loose stools.

• Avoid spicy and fatty fried foods.
• Lose weight if you are obese.
• If you are a smoker, consider giving up.
• Don't drink too much alcohol.
• Do not go to bed immediately after eating. Sit in a relaxed position for some time for better digestion.

✔️ Flatameal-DS 200 ml is used to treat:

• Hyperacidity is caused by conditions such as peptic ulcer, gastritis, peptic esophagitis, gastric hyperacidity, heartburn, sour stomach, or hiatus hernia.
• Stress ulcers and GI bleeding prevention.
• Post-operative gas discomfort relief.

✔️ Pharmacology

• Aluminium Hydroxide: Neutralizes stomach hydrochloride to form AlCl3 and water, increasing gastric pH.
• Magnesium Hydroxide: Promotes bowel evacuation by causing osmotic retention of fluid, which distends the colon and increases peristaltic activity; forms magnesium chloride when reacting with hydrochloric acid.
• Simethicone: Disperses and prevents gas pockets in the GI system by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles.

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Flatamel DS Suspension 200ml

Suspension: 1-2 teaspoonfuls 1-3 hours after meals and at bedtime or as directed by a physician. 

✔️ Interaction

• Aluminium Hydroxide: Enhanced absorption with citrates or ascorbic acid. Decreases absorption of various drugs including allopurinol, tetracyclines, quinolones, cephalosporins, biphosphonate derivatives, corticosteroids, cyclosporin, delavirdine, iron salts, imidazole antifungals, isoniazid, mycophenolate, penicillamine, phosphate supplements, phenytoin, phenothiazines, and trientine.
• Magnesium Hydroxide: Decreases absorption of tetracyclines and bisphosphonates. Separate administration of these and other drugs by around 2 hours.
• Simethicone: No well-documented interactions.

✔️ Contraindications

• Renal failure
• Hypophosphatemia
• Severe debilitation
• Alkalosis or hypermagnesemia
• Cases of abdominal distention caused by partial or full intestinal obstruction

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Avoid antacid medications during the first trimester of pregnancy.
• Unknown if excreted in human milk; caution advised.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
• In chronic renal impairment, CHF, edema, cirrhosis, low sodium diets, or recent GI hemorrhage, administer 2-3 hours before/after another medication to minimize drug interactions.
• For dyspepsia and flatulence, take on an empty stomach.
