✔️ Composition (Per 5 ml Syrup)
- Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide BP: 20 mg – a non-narcotic cough suppressant
- Phenylephrine Hydrochloride BP: 10 mg – a nasal decongestant
- Triprolidine Hydrochloride BP: 2.5 mg – an antihistamine
✔️ Dosage Instructions
- Adults: 2 teaspoonfuls, three times daily.
- Children Over 12 years: 2 teaspoonfuls, three times daily.
- Children 6-12 years: 1 teaspoonful, three times daily.
- Children 2-6 years: 1/2 teaspoonful, three times daily or as directed by a physician.
✔️ Pharmacology
- Dextromethorphan: A central-acting antitussive, it suppresses cough without causing sedation or dependency.
- Phenylephrine: A decongestant that reduces nasal passage swelling, easing symptoms of nasal congestion and sinus pressure.
- Triprolidine: An H1 antihistamine that alleviates allergy symptoms, including watery eyes and itching, with mild sedative effects.
✔️ Interactions
Avoid use with MAO inhibitors (e.g., phenelzine, selegiline) as they may cause serious interactions. Most MAOIs should not be taken within two weeks of this medication.
✔️ Contraindications
Not recommended for patients with liver disease, asthma, or those using or recently stopping MAO inhibitors.
✔️ Overdose Effects
Seek immediate medical attention for symptoms of overdose, which may include respiratory depression, hallucinations, and seizures.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- May cause drowsiness; avoid driving or operating machinery.
- Avoid alcohol during use.
- Use cautiously in patients with epilepsy, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, hepatic disease, or hyperthyroidism.
- If symptoms persist beyond one week or with high fever, consult a physician.
