GOL Sugar Free Oral Solution 100ml

✔️ Indications: GOL

Polyethylene glycol (PEG) works as an osmotic agent in the gut, inducing a laxative effect. It increases stool volume, stimulating colon motility through neuromuscular pathways. This improves the movement of softened stools, facilitating defecation. The electrolytes in the formulation are exchanged with serum electrolytes across the intestinal mucosa and excreted without causing an imbalance in sodium, potassium, or water. PEG remains unchanged in the gastrointestinal tract and is largely unabsorbed.

✔️ Generally well tolerated, but some side effects may include:

• Allergic reactions
• Electrolyte disturbances, such as hyperkalemia (high potassium) and hypokalemia (low potassium)
• Abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, peripheral edema (swelling)

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Gol

For adults and children aged 12 and older:

• Constipation: Take 1 sachet daily, which may be increased to 2-3 sachets daily if necessary.
• Fecal Impaction: Take 8 sachets daily, consumed within 6 hours. Treatment for fecal impaction should not exceed 3 days.

For patients with renal insufficiency, no dosage adjustment is required.

✔️ Oral Solution:

• Constipation: Take 25 mL of the oral solution added to 100 mL of water once daily. The dose may be increased to 2-3 doses per day as needed.
• Fecal Impaction: Take 8 doses of 25 mL daily (each mixed with 100 mL of water). The treatment should not exceed 3 days.

Unused diluted solution should be discarded after 24 hours.

✔️ Directions for Use: GOL

• Dissolve one sachet in 125 mL of water.
• For fecal impaction, dissolve 8 sachets in 1 liter of water. Store the solution in the fridge and discard any unused solution within 6 hours.

✔️ Interactions of GOL

The absorption of other medicines may be temporarily reduced when taken with this solution. There have been isolated reports of decreased efficacy with certain medications, such as anti-epileptics.

✔️ Contraindications

• Intestinal perforation or obstruction due to structural or functional issues in the gut, ileus, or severe inflammatory conditions like Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and toxic megacolon.
• Hypersensitivity to the active ingredients.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: There are no expected harmful effects during pregnancy, as systemic absorption of Polyethylene Glycol is minimal. It can be used during pregnancy.
• Lactation: The systemic exposure to Polyethylene Glycol during breastfeeding is negligible, and no effects on the breastfed infant are expected. It can be used during breastfeeding.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• For patients with impaired cardiovascular function, the dose should be divided to ensure no more than two sachets are taken per hour.
• If symptoms suggest fluid or electrolyte disturbances (e.g., edema, shortness of breath, fatigue, dehydration, or cardiac failure), stop the medication immediately and treat accordingly.
• Prolonged use of laxatives is undesirable and can lead to dependency.
