Trachyspermum ammi contains essential oil (2-3.5%), phenol, thymol (35-60%), carvacrol, terpinene, and dipentene. It has tonic, antiseptic, stomachic, carminative, antispasmodic, and antibacterial properties. It is used for treating constipation, bloating, colic, dyspepsia, and acid reflux.

Adults: 2-4 teaspoonfuls to be taken with an equal quantity of water, 2-3 times daily after meals.
Children: 1-2 teaspoonfuls to be taken with an equal quantity of water, 2-3 times daily after meals.

Antidepressants such as SSRIs and related medications should not be started for at least two weeks after stopping an MAOI.
