Fylox 200 Tablet

✔️ Dosage & Administration

• Elderly: 200 mg tablet, 2–3 times daily
• Adults: 400 mg tablet, 2–3 times daily or as directed by a physician
• Children:
  • Above 12 years: 200 mg tablet or 10 ml syrup, 2–3 times daily
  • 6–12 years: 6–9 mg/kg body weight twice daily
    • Example: A 10 kg child may receive 3 ml (60 mg) twice daily
• Sustained-release (SR) formulation: 400 mg once daily if indicated

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Avoid concurrent use with other xanthine derivatives
• Limit intake of caffeine-containing foods and beverages
• Use cautiously with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic agents
• Certain drugs (e.g., erythromycin, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, propranolol, influenza vaccine) may reduce hepatic clearance, increasing plasma levels
• Phenytoin, anticonvulsants, and smoking may enhance drug clearance, potentially requiring dose adjustment

✔️ Doxophylline should not be used in patients with:

• Hypersensitivity to doxophylline or other xanthines
• Acute myocardial infarction
• Hypotension
• Lactation

✔️ Possible side effects include:

• Nausea, vomiting, epigastric discomfort
• Headache, irritability, insomnia
• Tachycardia, extrasystoles
• Rapid breathing (tachypnea)
• Rarely: hyperglycemia or albuminuria

Severe overdose may lead to cardiac arrhythmias or seizures. Treatment should be discontinued if significant adverse effects occur.

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed after careful risk-benefit assessment
• Lactation: Contraindicated

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Reduced drug clearance may occur in elderly patients, those with liver disease, those with COPD, those with infections, or those with heart failure
• Dose adjustment and monitoring of blood levels may be necessary
• Use cautiously in patients with:
  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Hypertension
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Severe hypoxemia
  • Peptic ulcer
  • Renal or hepatic impairment

✔️ Storage:

• Store in a cool, dry place away from heat and light
• Keep out of reach of children
• Use only under specialist medical supervision
