Acne is a skin condition characterized by inflammatory spots, oily skin, and painful nodular lesions that commonly affect the face, chest, and back. - Treatment of Acne
✔️ How does Isotrin 20 work?
- Reduces sebum (oil) production by shrinking oil glands.
- Helps prevent clogged pores and acne-causing bacteria.
- Promotes skin cell turnover and reduces inflammation.
- Doesn't kill bacteria directly but creates an environment less favorable for their growth.
✔️ Side Effects of Isotrin 20
Most are dose-related and reversible:
- Very Common: Dry lips (cheilitis), dry skin, conjunctivitis, joint pain, back pain.
- Common: Headache, nosebleeds, eye irritation.
- Rare: Depression, liver issues, hearing/vision issues, gut inflammation, muscle pain.
- Very Rare: Severe skin reactions (SJS, TEN), serious psychiatric effects.
✔️ Dosage & Administration
Take with food once or twice daily.
- Usual starting dose: 0.5 mg/kg/day, adjust as needed.
- Usual course: 16–24 weeks.
- Goal: Cumulative dose of 120–150 mg/kg.
- Do not start a new course until 8 weeks after stopping.
Kidney issues: Start with lower dose (e.g., 10 mg/day).
Children: Not for use under 12 years old.
Intolerance: Lower the dose, but continue longer.

- Pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Liver disease.
- High blood fats (cholesterol, triglycerides).
Taking tetracycline antibiotics.
- Vitamin A overdose (hypervitaminosis A).

🚫 Pregnancy
- Highly teratogenic (causes birth defects).
- Strict Pregnancy Prevention Program (PPP) required for women of childbearing age:
- 2 forms of contraception.
- Monthly pregnancy tests.
- Stop treatment at least 1 month before planning pregnancy.
- Avoid blood donation for 1 month after treatment.
😟 Mental Health
- Can cause or worsen depression, anxiety, and rare cases of suicidal thoughts.
- Watch for mood changes—seek help if needed.
🔥 Skin Sensitivity
- May worsen acne at first.
- Causes dry skin, lips, and eyes—use moisturizers and lip balm.
- Avoid waxing, chemical peels, or laser treatment during and for 6 months after use.
