Glinta Plus 25/5mg Tablet

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Glinta Plus 25/5mg Tablet

• Standard dose: 10 mg Empagliflozin + 5 mg Linagliptin once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food.
• Higher dose: Can be increased to 25 mg Empagliflozin + 5 mg Linagliptin once daily if needed.
• Patients with kidney issues: Renal function should be evaluated before starting treatment. This medication should not be initiated if the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is below 45 mL/min/1.73 m². If kidney function declines below this level, discontinuation is recommended.

✔️ Side Effects of Glinta Plus 25/5mg Tablet

• Pancreatitis
• Diabetic ketoacidosis (a life-threatening condition requiring urgent care)
• Severe dehydration
• Serious urinary tract infections
• Low blood sugar when taken with insulin or insulin secretagogues
• Necrotizing fasciitis of the perineum (Fournier’s gangrene)
• Fungal infections in the genital area
• Severe joint pain
• Skin disorders (bullous pemphigoid)
• Risk of heart failure

✔️ Drug Interactions

• Diuretics: Taking Empagliflozin alongside diuretics may lead to increased urination, raising the risk of dehydration.
• Insulin or Insulin Secretagogues: Combining this medication with insulin or insulin-releasing drugs increases the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
• P-glycoprotein or CYP3A4 Enzyme Inducers: Drugs like Rifampin may reduce the effectiveness of Linagliptin by lowering its concentration in the body.
• Urine Glucose Test: SGLT2 inhibitors can cause a false positive result in urine glucose tests due to increased glucose excretion.
• 1,5-anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG) Assay: This test may not be reliable for measuring blood sugar control in patients taking SGLT2 inhibitors.

✔️ Contraindications

• Severe kidney disease, end-stage renal failure, or dialysis
• History of severe allergic reactions to Linagliptin, such as anaphylaxis, angioedema, or serious skin reactions
• Previous allergic reaction to Empagliflozin

✔️ Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

This medication is not recommended during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy due to potential risks to the mother and fetus. Data on its safety in pregnant women is limited. Poorly controlled diabetes during pregnancy can cause complications.

✔️ Patients should use caution if they have the following conditions:

• Pancreatitis: Linagliptin has been linked to both non-fatal and fatal cases of pancreatitis.
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis: Some patients have experienced life-threatening ketoacidosis, requiring urgent medical attention.
• Dehydration & Low Blood Pressure: Empagliflozin can cause a drop in blood volume, leading to symptoms like dizziness or kidney issues.
• Urinary Tract Infections: Some patients using SGLT2 inhibitors have developed serious infections requiring hospitalization.
• Hypoglycemia: The risk of low blood sugar increases when taken with insulin or other diabetes medications.
• Fournier’s Gangrene: This rare but severe infection of the perineum requires emergency surgical intervention.
• Genital Fungal Infections: There is an increased risk of yeast infections in both men and women.
• Heart Failure Risk: Some DPP-4 inhibitors have been linked to an increased risk of heart failure in patients with cardiovascular disease.
