How to use Voligel 1% Gel

• Gently massage Voligel into the skin of the affected area.
• Wash your hands immediately after using gel, unless your hands are part of the treated area
• Do not wrap, bandage, or apply heat to the treated area.
• For external use only
• Use under Medical supervision.

Pharmacology

Diclofenac Sodium is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-rheumatic properties. It also has uricosuric effects. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which play a crucial role in the development of inflammation, pain, and fever. When taken with food, diclofenac is rapidly and extensively absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, and peak plasma concentrations are typically reached within two hours. At therapeutic doses, it is highly bound to plasma proteins (99.7%). Diclofenac undergoes metabolism in the liver and undergoes first-pass metabolism.

Dosage & Administration

• For external use only.
• Depending on the size of the area to be treated, 2-4 g of Diclofenac gel should be applied to the skin 3-4 times daily.
• To the affected area, the gel should be rubbed lightly.
• This gel may also be given in addition to further treatment with other dosage forms of Diclofenac.

Interaction

• Medicines like blood thinners (warfarin, aspirin), diuretics (furosemide and thiazide), and heart-related medicine (digoxin) interact with Diclofenac Sodium. So, if you are taking these medicines make sure you contact the doctor before taking Diclofenac Sodium
• People with peptic ulcer, gastric bleeding, severe heart failure, and high blood pressure should avoid intake of Diclofenac Sodium as it may lead to unpleasant side effects.

Contraindications

Patients who are hypersensitive to any of the items' ingredients should avoid using them. Peptic ulcer, hypersensitivity to Diclofenac, as well as other non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents. Diclofenac is also contra-indicated in asthmatic patients who have had an attack of asthma, urticaria, or acute rhinitis triggered by acetylsalicylic acid or other drugs that inhibit prostaglandin synthetase. Under occlusive airtight dressings, this Gel should not be utilized.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Diclofenac should only be used if absolutely necessary during pregnancy. The smallest dose that is effective should be utilized. These medications are not advised to be taken during the first trimester of pregnancy.
• Diclofenac Sodium Gel is not suggested during pregnancy due to a lack of clinical evidence. Although a trace amount of Diclofenac may be discovered in breast milk, no adverse effects on the newborn are expected.

Precautions & Warnings

• In rare cases, peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding occurs in Diclofenac-treated individuals.
• Patients above the age of 65 should be closely monitored. Gel should not be allowed to come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes, hands should be well-cleansed after application, and they should not be consumed orally. Lactation: Milk excretion is unknown/not advised.
• Voligel is not recommended for use in children (under 14 years of age). Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
• Heavy activity should be avoided since it might aggravate arthritic joint discomfort. Instead, you can stretch and engage in a low-impact cardiovascular activity such as treadmill walking, biking, and swimming. Lifting modest weights can also help to improve your muscular strength.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool and dry place, protected from light. Store below 30°C. Keep out of the reach of children.
