Thiason Vial 100mg

DESCRIPTION 

Thiason contains Thiamine Hydrochloride, a water-soluble vitamin that is an essential coenzyme for carbohydrate metabolism. Thiamine deficiency develops when the dietary intake is inadequate; severe deficiency leads to the development of a syndrome known as beriberi. Chronic ‘dry’ beriberi is characterized by peripheral neuropathy, muscle wasting and muscle weakness, and paralysis. Acute ‘wet’ beriberi is characterized by cardiac failure and edema. Thiamine is rapidly absorbed from the upper small intestine. It is not stored in the body to any appreciable extent. The plasma half-life of thiamine is 24 hours.

Each tablet contains Thiamine HCl BP 100mg Thiason Injection: Each mL contains Thiamine HCl BP 100mg INDICATIONS Treatment and prophylaxis of thiamine deficiency like Beriberi,Peripheral neuritis, Wernicke’s encephalopathy, Loss of appetite, Impaired digestion of starch and sugar, Diarrhoea due to thiamine deficiency

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION 

In mild chronic thiamine deficiency: up to 30 mg daily in single or divided doses In severe thiamine deficiency: up to 300mg daily and even higher daily doses may be employed in Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. Injectable form: I.M. or I.V. as advised by the Regd. Physician. 

CONTRAINDICATIONS 

There are no absolute contraindications but the risk of anaphylaxis is increased by repeated parenteral administration.

DRUG INTERACTIONS 

Vitamin B1 acts synergistically with other vitamins of the B-complex group and its potential for causing adverse effects is considerably reduced. 

SIDE-EFFECTS/ADVERSE REACTIONS

 Vitamin B1 does not have adverse effects when given orally, but in a few fatal cases, anaphylactic reactions have occurred after the intravenous administration of large doses (400mg) in sensitive patients, especially children. In patients with a history of sensitivity to vitamin B1, pruritis, urticaria, weakness, sweating, nausea, restlessness, tightness of the throat, angioneurotic edema, cyanosis, pulmonary edema, hemorrhage into the gastrointestinal tract and collapse have been reported. 

PRECAUTIONS 

Allergic sensitivity may develop, especially after parenteral use. Intramuscular injections are painful. No untoward effects occur when thiamine is administered orally in amounts greater than the therapeutic dose. Anaphylactic reactions have been produced by injection of thiamine given alone. The risk of anaphylactic reactions increases with repeated administration of the drug by the parenteral route. Intravenous injections should be given slowly over 10 minutes.

USE IN PREGNANCY AND LACTATION 

The drug may be given safely to pregnant and lactating women. 

USE IN CHILDREN The drug may be given safely to neonates and children.
