Pharmacology

The 2-adrenoceptor is a selective agonist of salbutamol. It has therapeutic effects on the 1-adrenoceptors of cardiac muscle but little to no effect on the 2-adrenoceptors of bronchial smooth muscle. Salbutamol causes short-acting (4-6 hours) bronchodilation with a rapid onset in reversible airway obstruction (within 5 minutes). By acting as an anti-inflammatory on mast cells, it also prevents the release of bronchoconstrictor mediators like histamine, neutrophil chemotactic factor (NCF), and prostaglandin D2.

Dosage of Sultolin HFA Inhaler

• Salbutamol Inhaler should only be administered through oral inhalation and it's important to shake the inhaler well before each use.
• To relieve acute episodes of bronchospasm, adults can take 1 or 2 puffs as needed, with a maximum dose of 8 puffs in 24 hours. Children should take half of the adult dose.
• To prevent bronchospasm triggered by allergens or exercise, adults can take 2 puffs 15 minutes before exposure, with a maximum of 2 puffs up to 4 times a day. Children should take half of the adult dose.
• For chronic therapy, adults and children can take up to 200 mcg (2 puffs) four times daily.

Administration of Sultolin HFA Inhaler

• Continue to use Sultolin HFA Inhaler until your doctor instructs you to stop.
• It is exclusively intended for inhalation.
• Inhale the medication only through your mouth, not your nose.
• Follow the directions in the included pamphlet.
• Prime the gadget by inhaling two puffs of the drug.
• Place the mouthpiece between your teeth and make sure it is completely closed.
• Breathe gently and deeply through the mouthpiece while squeezing the top of the canister firmly to release a puff of medication.
• Remove the device from your mouth and hold your breath for 10 seconds or as long as you are comfortable.
• Wait around 30 seconds between puffs of the drug.
• After usage, clean the mouthpiece with a dry tissue and shut the device.
• After you've finished inhaling, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out, or brush your teeth.
• Depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition, your doctor will determine the appropriate dose, duration, and number of puffs for you.
• Do not begin using this drug until your doctor or health care provider has instructed you how to use it appropriately and you understand how to do so
• If you have trouble using this device, your doctor may prescribe a spacer device.

Interaction

• Sultolin HFA Inhaler may interact with several medications, including non-selective beta-blocking drugs, antidepressants, anti-hypertensive drugs, anti-anxiety drugs, blood clot drugs, gout drugs, heart rhythm drugs, hormone problems/birth control drugs, immune disorder drugs, anti-seizure drugs, and stomach acid-reducing drugs. It is important to inform your doctor of any medications you are taking before using Sultolin HFA Inhaler.
• Limiting alcohol intake is recommended as it may worsen side effects such as sleepiness and shakiness.
• If you have a gastric or peptic ulcer, sepsis, hypokalaemia, lactic acidosis, liver/kidney diseases (especially cirrhosis or hepatitis), fluid in the lungs, heart problems, overactive thyroid, or seizures, it is important to inform your doctor before taking Sultolin HFA Inhaler, as it may not be suitable or may require careful monitoring.

Contraindications

Salbutamol inhaler is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to salbutamol or any other components of Salbutamol inhaler.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Classification C. In pregnant women, there are no sufficient and well-controlled studies using salbutamol inhalers or salbutamol sulfate. During pregnancy, this inhaler should only be used if the possible benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. The components of the Salbutamol inhaler are not known to be excreted in human milk. When administering this inhaler to a nursing mother, exercise caution.

Precautions & Warnings

Beta-agonists have also been connected to ECG abnormalities like ST-segment depression, QTc interval lengthening, and flattening of the T wave. These observations' clinical relevance has not yet been established. Salbutamol inhalers, like all sympathomimetic amines, should be used with caution in people who have underlying cardiovascular diseases, especially coronary insufficiency.
