Description:

Rupatadine is classified as an antihistamine or anti-allergic medication, primarily used to treat allergic conditions such as allergic rhinitis and urticaria. Allergic rhinitis, often referred to as hay fever, involves inflammation in the nasal passages due to an overreaction of the immune system to airborne allergens. Urticaria, also known as hives, manifests as sudden outbreaks of swollen, pale red bumps or wheals on the skin and can result from the body's response to specific allergens or unknown triggers.

Rupafast 10mg Tablet contains the active ingredient 'Rupatadine,' which functions by reducing the levels of histamine, a chemical responsible for causing various allergic symptoms like itching, sneezing, runny nose, swelling, and skin rashes.

This medication can be taken with or without food, and it should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Chewing, biting, or breaking the tablets is not recommended. The dosage frequency will be determined by your doctor based on your specific medical condition. While using Rupatadine, you may experience common side effects such as headaches, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, tiredness, nausea, and abdominal pain. In most cases, these side effects do not necessitate medical intervention and tend to resolve over time. However, if any side effects persist or worsen, it's advisable to discontinue the medication and consult your doctor.

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss the use of Rupatadine with your doctor. Additionally, caution should be exercised when using Rupatadine in elderly patients (aged >65 years) due to an increased risk of severe adverse effects. Patients with heart, kidney, or liver conditions should also use Rupatadine cautiously.

Side Effects of Rupafast 10mg Tablet

The most common adverse effects include sleepiness, general weakness, and fatigue.

Quick Suggestions:
  • Staying hydrated is crucial for individuals dealing with a cough or cold. Drinking fluids at room temperature can help alleviate symptoms like coughing, runny nose, and sneezing.
  • Stress can weaken the immune system and increase the risk of illness. To boost your immune system and reduce stress, consider regular exercise, meditation, deep breathing exercises, and progressive muscle relaxation techniques.
  • Getting enough sleep is essential for overall health and immunity. Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep each night to stay fit and maintain a strong immune system.
  • To minimize the risk of allergies, try to avoid contact with known allergens such as pollen and dust. Practicing good personal hygiene and keeping your surroundings clean can also help reduce allergen exposure.
  • Special advice: If you plan to undergo an allergy test, it's advisable to stop taking RUPATADINE at least three days before the test, as it may affect the accuracy of the results.
Indications:

Rupafast 10mg is a medication primarily indicated for the treatment of urticaria (hives) and both seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever). It belongs to the class of drugs known as antihistamines, which are used to manage various allergy-related conditions. Rupatadine, the active ingredient in Rupafast, helps alleviate symptoms like skin rashes, swelling, and itching associated with allergies.

Pharmacology

Rupatadine is a long-acting, non-sedative histamine H1 receptor antagonist. It also acts on the platelet-activating factor (PAF). Both histamine and PAF can constrict airways, increase vascular permeability, and act as mediators in the inflammatory process. Rupatadine inhibits the release of cytokines, particularly tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), in human mastocytes and monocytes. These additional anti-allergic effects include preventing mast cell degranulation caused by various stimuli, both immunological and non-immunological.

Dosage & Administration of Rupafast 10mg Tablet

The recommended dosage is 10 mg once daily, with or without food.

Interaction

Rupatadine's systemic exposure increases when taken concurrently with erythromycin or ketoconazole. Caution should be exercised when combining Rupatadine with these medications and other CYP3A4 isozyme inhibitors. Rupatadine should only be used with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol under medical supervision. It should not be consumed at the same time as grapefruit or grapefruit juice.

Contraindications

Rupafast 10mg should not be used in individuals with hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or any of the excipients.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There is limited clinical data available on the use of Rupatadine during pregnancy. Pregnant women should only use it if the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks for the infant. There is no information available regarding whether Rupatadine is excreted in breast milk. Therefore, it should not be used during lactation unless the potential benefits for the mother justify the potential risk to the infant.

Precautions & Warnings

Rupafast 10mg should be used with caution in patients with known QT interval prolongation, uncorrected hypokalemia, or persistent proarrhythmic conditions such as clinically severe bradycardia or acute myocardial ischemia. It should also be used with caution in elderly patients (65 years and older). Due to a lack of clinical data, the use of Rupafast 10mg in patients with compromised renal or liver function is currently not recommended.

Storage Conditions

Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
