Indication of Trego 2% Ointment

Trego 2% Ointment is a topical antibiotic. It is used for the treatment of bacterial skin infections. It works by killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing further bacterial growth.

Pharmacology

A naturally occurring antibiotic is mutirocin. This antibiotic agent is fermented using the bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens. It is effective against a variety of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant strains of the skin infections-causing Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Additionally, it works well against gram-negative bacteria like Haemophilus influenzae and E. coli. Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly and selectively binding to isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase.

Dosage & Administration of Trego 2% Ointment

A small amount of Bactroban ointment should be applied to the affected area 3 times daily for up to 10 days. The safety and effectiveness of Mupirocin ointment have been established in the age range of 2 months to 16 years.

Apply Trego 2% Ointment as advised by your physician. It is for external use only. Wash your hands before and after applying for the medicine. Apply a thin layer of this medicine to the affected area of the skin and rub it gently. You can cover the treated area with a plaster or other suitable dressing if advised by the doctor. Your doctor will decide the correct frequency and duration for you depending on your age and disease condition.

Interaction

There have been no reports of medication interactions with Mupirocin ointment.

Contraindications

Individuals having a history of hypersensitivity responses to Mupirocin or any of the preparation's components should avoid using the medication.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Animal reproduction tests using Mupirocin ointment found no evidence of fetal damage. Because there is no scientific data on its usage during pregnancy, Mupirocin ointment should be used only when the potential benefits outweigh the risks of therapy.

It is uncertain if this medication is excreted in human milk. Because many medications are secreted in human milk, care should be used while administering Mupirocin ointment to a breastfeeding mother.

Precautions & Warnings
  • The eyes or the nose should not be treated with mupirocin ointment.
  • Like other antibacterial agents, prolonged use of antibacterial products may cause non-susceptible organisms, like fungus, to overgrow. Be careful not to get Mupirocin in your eyes when applying it to your face.
  • Use of this with cannulae or at the location of central venous cannulation is inappropriate.
  • Use of Mupirocin ointment should be discontinued and appropriate alternative therapy for the infection should be started if it causes sensitivity or severe skin irritation.
  • When Mupirocin ointment is combined with other medications, the risk of dilution increases, which lowers the antibacterial effectiveness and probably causes Mupirocin stability in the ointment to deteriorate.
  • Apply the medication at least three times daily after cleaning and drying the affected area. If necessary, a dressing can be placed on top of the treated area.
  • Avoid getting it in your mouth, nose, or eyes. If you accidentally get it in these areas, rinse it with cold water.
  • At the application site, it might cause a little irritation. If the irritation does not go away, tell your doctor.
  • Use for no more than ten days. Any remaining cream should be discarded.
  • Consult a physician if your skin condition does not improve within 3 to 5 days.
Storage Conditions

Keep the temperature below 25° C and away from light and moisture. Do not store in the freezer. Keep out of children's reach.
