How does Enocam 20mg Tablet work?

This medication may cause some anti-inflammatory effects that arise from inhibition of the enzyme cyclooxygenase and subsequent inhibition of outer prostaglandin synthesis. Tenoxicam gives rise to outer analgesic effects.

Side Effects of Enocam 20mg Tablet

• Generally well-tolerated.
• Common: Gastrointestinal discomfort, dyspepsia, nausea, dizziness, headache.
• Less common: Constipation, diarrhea, stomatitis, fatigue, skin reactions, increased liver enzyme activity.
• Rare: Gastrointestinal perforation, visual disturbances, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, blood disorders, hypersensitivity reactions, elevated blood pressure.

• It should be taken with food or milk to avoid getting an upset stomach.

Indications:

Symptomatic treatment of painful inflammatory and degenerative musculoskeletal disorders.

• Rheumatoid arthritis

• Extra-articular disorders (tendinitis, bursitis, periarthritis, strains, sprains)
• Acute gout

Pharmacology

• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties.
• Inhibits prostaglandin biosynthesis, and acts as a scavenger for active oxygen at the site of inflammation.
• Strong in-vitro inhibitor of human metalloproteinases, explaining its therapeutic benefits in inflammatory and degenerative musculoskeletal disorders.
• No mutagenic, carcinogenic, or teratogenic effects were observed in animals.

Dosage & Administration:

• Standard dosage: 20 mg once daily at the same time of day for all indications (except acute gout).
• Acute gout: 40 mg once daily for two days followed by 20 mg once daily for five days.
• Chronic disorders: Early therapeutic effect, with a progressive increase in response over time. Daily doses >20 mg in chronic disorders should be avoided.
• Reduction to a daily oral dose of 10 mg may be considered for maintenance in long-term treatment.

Interaction

• Salicylates may displace tenoxicam from protein-binding sites, increasing the risk of gastrointestinal reactions.
• Caution with concurrent use of NSAIDs and methotrexate.
• No clinically relevant interaction was found with gold, penicillamine, or probenecid.
• Tenoxicam may decrease the renal clearance of lithium, requiring close monitoring of lithium levels.

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the drug.
• Hypersensitivity to salicylates or other NSAIDs causing asthma, rhinitis, or urticaria.
• History of upper gastrointestinal tract diseases such as gastritis, gastric, and duodenal ulcers.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Avoid use during the third trimester of pregnancy.
• The small amount excreted in breast milk; no evidence of adverse reactions, but caution is advised.

Precautions & Warnings

• Caution in patients with asthma, hypertension, heart failure, gastrointestinal diseases, fluid retention, and edema.
• Monitor patients with renal, hepatic, and cardiac conditions.
• Inhibition of platelet aggregation may affect hemostasis.
• Not recommended for patients undergoing major surgery.
• Elderly patients should use the lowest effective dose.
