What if you forget to take Metryl 500?

If you miss a dose of Metryl 500, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Indication of Metryl 500

Metryl 500 includes Metronidazole, a medication from the class of medications known as antiprotozoal drugs. It is used to treat a variety of parasitic illnesses in the body, including trichomonas vaginitis, amoebiasis, and giardiasis (a parasitic infection that causes extreme diarrhea and stomach cramps). Pharmacology

Metronidazole is a medication used to treat parasites that belongs to the imidazole family of antibiotics. Anaerobic bacteria's metabolism reduces the metronidazole's 5 nitro groups. Studies have demonstrated that this medication's reduced version works with DNA to create metronidazole's bactericidal effects.

Dosage & Administrations of Metryl 500

Trichomoniasis (Adults and Children Over the Age of 10)-

• For 7 days, take 200 mg tid or 400 mg bid. For the next two days, take 800 mg in the morning and 1-2 grams at night.
• 2 grams in one dosage for one day

Trichomoniasis (Children)-

• Children aged 7 to 10 years: 100 milligrams tid
• Children aged 3 to 7 years: 100 milligrams dose
• Children aged 1-3 years: 50 milligrams daily

Intestinal Amoebiasis (Adults & Children over 10 yrs)- 

For 5 days, take 800 milligrams tid. Amoebiasis in the intestine (Children)-

• Children aged 7 to 10 years: 400 milligrams daily
• Children aged 3 to 7 years: 200 milligrams qid
• Children aged 1-3 years: 200 milligrams twice daily

Extra-intestinal & Asymptomatic amoebiasis (Adults & Children over 10 yrs)-

• For 5-10 days, take 400-800 milligrams tid.

Extra-intestinal & Asymptomatic amoebiasis (Children)-

• Children aged 7 to 10 years: 200-400 milligrams daily
• Children aged 3 to 7 years: 100-200 milligrams qid
• Children aged 1-3 years: 100-200 milligrams twice daily

Giardiasis (Adults & Children over 10 yrs)-

• 2 gm once daily for 3 days Giardiasis (Children)-
• Children aged 7 to 10 years: 1 gm once every day
  Children aged 3 to 7 years: 600-800 milligrams once daily
  500 milligrams once every day for children aged 1-3 years.

Acute Ulcerative Gingivitis (Adults & Children over 10 yrs)-

• For three days, take 200 milligrams twice a day.

Acute ulcerative  gingivitis (Children)-

• Children aged 7 to 10 years: 100 milligrams tid
• For children aged 3 to 7 years: 100 milligrams dose
• Children aged 1-3 years: 50 milligrams daily

Acute dental infections (Adults & Children over 10 yrs)-

• For 3-7 days, take 200 milligrams at bedtime. Bacterial Vaginosis (Adults and Children Over the Age of 10)-
• For 7 days, take 400 milligrams dose.
• 2 grams in one dosage for one day

Leg ulcers and pressure wounds (adults and children over the age of 10)-

• For 7 days, take 400 milligrams tid.

Anaerobic diseases (adults and children over the age of 10)-

• 800 mg at first, then 400 mg tid for 7 days

Anaerobic infections (Children)-

• 7.5 mg/kg tid for children 1-10 years old. Surgical prevention (adults and children over 10 years old)-
• For one day, 400 mg tid was begun 24 hours before the operation.

Surgical prophylaxis (Children)-

• Children aged 1 to 10 years: 7.5 mg/kg tim.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Metryl 500 is to be taken with food.

Interaction

Inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications before taking Metryl 500 Tablet:

• Anticoagulants (medicines used for thinning the blood) For example, Warfarin
• Alcohol
• Lithium (a medicine used to treat mental illness)
• Fit-treating medications (convulsions) Phenytoin, primidone, and phenobarbitone are a few examples.
• Treatments for blood cancer and other types of cancer (Ex. 5-fluorouracil, busulfan)
• Ciclosporin (a medicine used to prevent rejection of organs after transplantation)
• Disulfiram (a medicine used to treat alcoholism)
  Cimetidine (a medicine used to treat stomach ulcers)
• Rifampicin (a medicine used to treat tuberculosis)

Contraindications

Patients who have a history of allergy to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives should not use metronidazole.

Pregnancy & Lactation

The US FDA classifies pregnancy with metronidazole as B. However, there are no adequate and well-controlled studies on pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies do not always predict human response, the drug should be used during pregnancy only when necessary. Metronidazole is excreted in human milk. Therefore, caution should be exercised when administering metronidazole to lactating women.

Precautions & Warnings

If for convincing reasons, metronidazole must be administered for longer than the usual recommended duration, it is recommended to perform hematological tests, especially white blood cell counts, and monitor the patient for adverse reactions such as peripheral or central neuropathy (such as feeling abnormal). , Ataxia, dizziness, seizures). 
Metronidazole should be used with caution in patients with hepatic encephalopathy. 
Patients should be informed that metronidazole may darken the urine.
